A graphite illustration of one of my all time favorite flowers, Datura stramonium. Growing abundantly here in southern California and now so many other parts of the world. A member of the nightshade family - containing the powerful tropane alkaloids scopolamine and atropine. Considered a deliriant because of its ability to disrupt the brains ability to accurately construct reality. Leading most to get completely lost in a hallucinatory state that they cannot come out of (if consumed). Was known to be used by death doulas as way to facilitate sacred transitions. Do not consume this plant!!

Datura carries a strong energy of death, transformation and access to the unconscious. I find the people attracted to this flower tend to be super unique and usually have a history of life events that are quite extreme. The energy reminds me of Pluto or the Tamo guna - either harnessing the ability to transmute hardship or a tendency toward destructive tendencies that take someone to a space of darkness. Neither good or bad - both leading the soul to the same evolutionary place. Most are too terrified of this energy because it represents total loss of control…but a gaining of spiritual truths. The most difficult of moments can be where we find our medicine and liberation.
